[Ebook] [Audiobook] [Cẩm vân che, mạch thượng sương][Eng Translation]
I don’t know how to translate the title to make sense in English so I’ll just pinyin it. This is because the title is a homonym of the two leads’ names. Literally, it is translated as conceal bright cloud (conceal – Zhe has similar sound to Bai Li Hao Zhe’s name) and frost on the street (frost – Shuang has similar sound to Ruan Wu Shuang’s name).
As I’ve written, I am on a bad boy binge so I found this book with pretty good dual voices audio book. Thus, I listened instead of read it. The book is just too short to make me feel much for the leads. I felt like a detached listener. The plot is also too dog blood (melodramatic) & typical so I can’t rate this highly. Because of that it is quite addictive.
Anyhow the audio production is good, so I’ll advise you to listen instead of read it. It is short & HE so you can finish it in no time. Don’t ask me for spoiler bcos the story is just too predictable. Exercise your brain & u’ll know the answer 😛 If you’ve read too many long & complex ancient novels, you can give this a try. Occasionally, one should indulge in fast food, instead of gourmet food 🙂
Will you translate this novel, peanuts? This novel sounds interesting & cute.
No, I only translate 5 stars novel 😛 It is not cute, no humor at all. Go & listen to the audio book. If u can’t understand Chinese, then u can use google translate. But I’ll advise u not to waste the time bcos it barely sustained my interest if not for the well produced audio book.
Ah no wonder your translation novel always good. Ok I trust your choice
Hi BreezeC,
Glad u like it. The book is 2 short for any meaningful character development & the plot rather predictable. But u can finish it in a breeze, pardon my pun lol. I m addicted to books by this author lol. She is no Gu Man or Ding Mo but her books are short, easy to read & addictive, kind of like Qiong Yao & FWSC but definitely HE inspite of the angst. At least u know, u’ll see rainbow after the rain lol. Something like the Western Harlequin M&B.
I dun know what is ximalaya’s deal with this author but a lot of her novels are being made into audio books & most of them are good. I am listening to another fantastic audio book by this author. This is her most famous novel. Actually I read this book a few yrs ago & u can read abt my comments. I didn’t really like the book back then bcos the audio book was awful but I’ve been seduced by the latest audio book lol. You may wanna give it a try but it is incomplete. Update is rather slow but nearing the end. I’ll post another of her book next week. Ya, I need to go into rehabilitation soon lol.

Hi Peanuts,
Thank you for introducing me to this short and addictive story. I was exactly in the mood for something not too complicated and short and this story is precisely what I need. I devoured this in 3 days…lol…and the audio book is great!
The plot is addicting even through some part of it is illogical and unreasonable but I do enjoy the flow and the description of the writing. I feel the premise of the story is a bit sad and the character is a bit weak but there is just something that makes me what to continue listening…
Short recap (spoiler alert):
The female lead is the precious treasured daughter of the most powerful family in the country. She is brought up in a loving and warm environment and she desires a peaceful and simple life away from all politics until her world was turned upside down one night when she was unknownly drugged and raped…
Distressed, she agreed to the marriage proposal from the second prince…a man she never met and knowing that his goal is to use her family background to help him fight for the throne.
During their marriage, the female lead is constantly in fear of discovery, especially when she became pregnant from that night…
With the help of her family and the empress, her husband became the emperor, she became the empress, and her son became the crowned prince. Trapped in the imperial palace, she has the most powerful and envied status of any woman in the country but her only wishes were to keep her and her loved ones alive and hide the truth forever. Yet, she couldn’t keep herself from falling for this man’s gentleness…
Until the truth came out…
*Major spoiler alert*
The twist of the story (which is quite predictable as the story progress) is that everything is the main lead’s scheme. He was the one who drugged and raped her that night in order to make her marry him and then use her connection to help him ascend the throne.
Turns out that his mother was killed by her aunt (the prior empress) and he is to seek revenge from her family. Once the prior empress is dead, his plan is to destroy her and her family but by that time, he could no longer go through with it because he cares and fallen for her…
During the first half of the story, I found the male lead to be distasteful for his scheme which cause the female lead’s suffering and then he even use the fact that she was not “virtuous” and that his son is “not” his son against her. However, he did sort of redeem himself at the end (could have make him suffer more lol).
I just saw that audio book and will definitely put it on my list. I lean more toward ancient novels but as long as my mood is right…I am open to any good novels. By the way, I want to thank you. I was first exposed to Chinese novels due your translation of Come & Eat Shan Shan. You did a fantastic job with that translation and thank you so much for the hard work (I was a silent reader then). Once I got into chinese novels, I am hooked. From reading translation, to audio books, and finally being able to read a novel (nothing too complicated though…) 🙂
I like this audiobok. Give me a break from the long novel.
I listened to the audiobook at ximalaya, and it’s quite well produced with a mix of male & female voice actors. 😀
That said, the story itself is quite flat. On paper the plot sounds very melodramatic and angsty, but the story itself doesn’t really evoke any emotions/feelings within me. 就是淡淡的感觉。I went into it expecting something suitably angsty, but I just couldn’t relate to the main characters…. I suspect it has to do with the author’s tendency to tell the story (i.e. narrating) instead of actually *showing* it, even for the major plot events.
Also, there’s a lot of declarations of love (especially towards the end), but the author never really showed why the main characters are in love. Right from the beginning, I couldn’t really feel the romance between them, or why they’re even in love in the first place. The story just kind of skipped over that build up? It’s like one moment they’re strangers, then they’re bestowed marriage, and after a couple of months they’re suddenly in love? But this process is not really illustrated by the author. It’s like: you’re telling me they’re in love, but you’re not showing me why, or how.
The male presence in the book is also quite weak, especially in the early chapters. Most of the time the female lead is just hanging around her room in the palace with her kid, but there’s really not that much interaction between them.
Overall I guess it’s worth listening to because the audiobook is pretty good, and it’s rather short (~30 episodes) and can be finished within two or three days.
