Hoju, could you tell me what does 如若有你一生何求 This mean? Thanks

如若有你一生何求 can be translated as "If I have you, what more could I ask for in this life?" However, there is also a play on words in this title. The name of the female lead in the story is 叶一生 Ye Yisheng, so her given name is actually the 5th and 6th characters in the title. If you think of it in that context, you could translate it as "If I have you, what more could I, Yisheng ask for?" Also, there is a play on sounds. Yisheng also sounds like 医生, which means doctor. So, if you were to just read the title out loud without lookin at the characters, it could sound like, "If I have you, what more could (this) doctor ask for?" The male lead, 宋安辰 Song Anchen is a doctor.

Lol. Sorry. You were probably expecting a short answer.

  • Anyways, if you liked Silent Separation, I would recommend 如若有你一生何求. They are similar in many aspects: 2 people who loved one another at a young age, separated by circumstance for many years with many regrets. The girl believes they cannot go back to what they had once had and not even sure if the boy loves or loved her, but the boy’s heart never changed never accepted another girl all those years and when they meet again, he tries to win her back. The boy is the “perfect man” — handsome, smart, the best at what he does — while the girl is just average and a little bumbling. There’s even plot elements that are similar, like a very unromantic marriage initiated by the guy to make her his. This one does have (quite) a few more bed scenes (LOL), although nothing really explicit and actually sometimes quite funny. It’s sweet and a HE.

  • Haha.....Pm, you're gonna get it from Peanuts. Omg, what happened to this posting? Of course, I for one shouldn't be commenting becoz I haven't posted a single book in centuries, but I just can't help it....heeeheee.

  • Hehe Xinn....I try to refrain from posting coz I almost deleted sth the last time....I'm really bad at these kind of technical stuff.....

Peanuts...soooo sorry .... :( I dunno how to fix this mess....

But I kinda like this book.... I'm only halfway thru and it's quite a nice read.....2 male leads.......I feel really sad for the 2nd lead......sighz....but it's another 青梅竹马 kinda story.

  • Pm, I'll give you IT 101 lesson tomorrow. Did you get this book off hoju? If not, how did you find it? You need to revise the title bcos the actual book's title is slightly different.

Xinn, you are a bad girl for laughing at your friend Pm:( You should teach her how to do it properly. Ya, you've not been sharing lately, hiding all your guys in your closet, lol.

  • Hoju..ur Chinese is fantastic!!!:) I shall attempt to change the English title translation...hehe

    Thanks for fixing it.....peanuts?

  • I changed it..I changed it...lalala and I didn't delete anything....lalala... :p

No thank you peanuts.....I'm an IT dummy.......has been, will be.....hahah...

Nope...didn't get it off hoju....can't remember where I saw the picture and it looked like the silent separation picture....but the title I got was the first one I wrote.....so not sure what the real title was......was trying to figure out how to translate 何求。..tot it meant a life time of searching......tot it was yi sheng telling an Chen that she was spending a life time searching for her love.

    • Yes, this novel looks like a blatant ripoff of silent separation from the book cover, title, character names, plot etc. If people enjoy it, so be it as there are real and fake LV bags in the world, lol. If the author did not copy any wordings from silent then should be ok.

  • Alright. I was the one to mention the similarities with Silent Separation, so now I will go ahead and describe the differences.

I'm normally one to turn my nose up at copycat anything. I read this story right after Silent, but for some reason, despite catching the similarities right away, was not turned off by it. Yes, there are several plot elements that are the same, which I mentioned way up above. Consciously or not, the author has taken a similar idea to Silent Separation and used it as a frame to create this story. However, this novel stylistically feels so different from Silent Separation. Despite being a relatively easy read, the first half or so of Silent is pretty emotionally intense. Gu Man's beautiful descriptions of inner emotions, struggles, regrets, etc are what made Silent Separation, story riddled with so many plot devices you couldn't help saying, "WTH?! This too?! What else can happen to this poor girl?" still so captivating and memorable.

In contrast, If I Have You has more realistic situations that crop up and a lighter, more humorous tone. No betrayal (perceived or otherwise) ever happened between them, so there is no intense conflict between the two leads like there was in Silent. Song Anchen is less "moody" (for lack of a better word at the moment... Sorry. Fried brain right now!) than He Yichen. Much of the story is about how he is trying to win Yisheng's heart, but her low self-esteem just can't believe this boy she has loved all her life could possibly return that love.

Character-wise, the supporting characters armor fleshed out in this novel whereas Silent really on focused on the leads. The second male lead, Yan Heng, is very likable and the sacrifices he makes for Yisheng makes him more memorable to his Silent "equivalent," Ying Hui. You will grind your teeth at the "third person" that causes conflict in he leads' relationship, but in the end, she is a victim too.

So, if I were to fairly compare, Silent Separation to me is the better novel. Gu Man's writing is able to pull the readers into her characters' hearts and minds and makes you reflect on the story. Hence, Silent has reached "classic" status and has such a cult following. This novel is a fun read. It is easy to follow, is very sweet, has characters you will like, and is oh so romantic in many ways. Look past the similarities and you can find the differences, and there are many. However, if you really are turned off by how it appears to be riding on the success of the other, that is understandable, and go ahead and set it down. I have other sweet and romantic novels to recommend.

And so, Hoju continues her trend of long posts. ;)
