Hawick & Zheng Shuang will be filming this drama adaptation soon. Because of his success with Sealed With a Kiss, Hawick probably wants to replicate the success with this drama. If the drama will follow the book ending, then you've been warned that this is an absolute tragedy even worse than Sealed With a Kiss & Too Late To Say I Love You. I read in cfensi that Tong Hua will write the script. Why?
[spoiler] Horrifically sad ending!!! Female lead and 2nd male lead are childhood friends and engaged to marry, but he destroys her father’s company forcing her father to commit suicide. The wedding is called off, and female lead struggles to take over her father’s company and turn it around. She approaches male lead because the company is near bankruptcy and needs a large infusion of cash. Male lead agrees to help. During the process of saving the company, they fall in love and become engaged. When she thinks things are going well, she finds out male lead and 2nd male lead have been working together all along. The two scumbags had worked together to destroy her father. In public, the scumbags pretend to be business enemies so they can secretly control prices. Upon further investigation, female lead finds out male lead’s revenge motive against her family. Years ago, her father had destroyed his father’s business, forcing the father to commit suicide and the mother went insane. Realizing that everything has been a lie and her company is bankrupt, female lead goes to male lead’s apartment, confronts and expresses her disappointment in him, then jumps to her death. [Personal opinion: The irony is this story is that the female lead could not forgive the 2nd male lead for what he had done to her family and the male lead could not forgive the female lead for what her father had done to his family. The catalyst that leads to the tragic ending is revenge. The solution is simply forgiveness, but the main characters could not get over the emotional hurdle of forgiving one’s enemy until everything’s too late.][/spoiler]
Read this novel very long ago as I have always liked revenge novels like 爱恨无垠 but this story has too much of a twist. Personally think that Hawick should stop taking the same roles over and over again. :( Used to like him a lot but the shows he has been taking causes his acting to remain stagnant.
It sounds like a train wreck of an ending. It sort of reminds me of Jue Se Qing Cheng, where both male lead and 2nd male lead team up to trick female lead. In Jue Se, however, the second male lead turns out to have redeeming qualities and tries to protect the girl. Even the jerk of a male lead in that story ends up repenting and trying to protect the female lead in the only way he knew possible. So how are the male and 2nd male leads in this story? Any redeeming qualities? What are their reactions to the female lead's suicide? Did they ever truly love her?
I'm a fan of Hawick, but I don't think he's that great of an actor. I think Hawick had success with Sealed With A Kiss so he's trying to replicate that success with similar roles. Why fix something if it isn't broken? I suppose.
I think readers will find both the male and 2nd male leads hateful after the twist is revealed. This is stepmom FWSC so no, no redeeming qualities, lol. I think both guys loved her, but the theme of the novel is that people who can't let go of revenge will suffer the consequences. This is applicable to all the main characters in the novel - the female lead, the male lead and the 2nd male lead.
