She, Huang Shang Rong, is a demoness who runs her office with an iron fist.
He, Xu He Jun, is her miracle cure, no, personal assistant, who got the job because his ancestors have done a lot of good deeds and blessed him with a strong Yang aura. Just by touching him or drinking his coffee is enough to chase away her blues and curb her bad temper. But why did he apply for long leave suddenly?
Turns out that he has a baby on the sly, and the mother abandoned his baby at his door, causing an upheaval to his life and nipping his budding romance with his current girlfriend. Ay, so poor thing. This young man is already dirt poor, how could he afford to take care of a baby? As his boss, she decided to step in and help him manage his time, manage his finances, set up an infant care at the office, and even volunteered to be the baby’s God mother.
Looking at his second-hand furniture, she even helped to buy a Simmons and ended up testing the new mattress with him. When he brought her back to meet his parents, she got a shock to find that they were staying at Di Bao (a high-class residential zone). So he is actually a rich man pretending to be poor? Why did he deceive everyone?

Quote of the Book: A man must shoulder his responsibility bravely – regardless if it is his or not.
This is a “My Queen” story. The female lead Huang Shang Rong, is a successful, career woman who develops an interesting relationship with her younger, personal assistant. The affable Xu He Jun is not a simple man (hence the term ‘black-bellied dad’), for not only is he an Undercover Boss-to-be, he is no push-over either. To others, theirs is an unbalanced relationship – either she has lost out by getting a poor, spineless boyfriend, or he has lost out by falling for a fierce, older girlfriend. But this couple has their own ways of resolving issues in their own sweet way, including their age, baby, and some voddoo stuff (because she can see ghosts, although this is a very minor thread in the whole book).
So Xu He Jun’s current girlfriend is a sham? And what is the ending? Hahah
Wow, this sounds awesome, it’s a fresh change from the usual boss – employee stereotypes, even though still in the same theme.
The current girlfriend is a very pretty-looking thing, who got scared that her new boyfriend suddenly has a baby son to take care of. She broke things off with him super quick – in her gentle way of course – after evaluating that his easy, charming manners is not worth the gamble.
The book has a happy ending, although you have to suspend your brains for a small part during the story. The nice part of this story is not the plot which is basically per the summary, but in their interactions with each other. Huang Shang Rong and Xu He Jun are a couple whose coming together is a cumulation of the head as much as the heart.
The feel of the book is very much like the Taiwanese drama “My Queen” by Ethan Ruan, except that there is a baby in the picture and that Xu He Jun is a rich man in disguise. The readers learn of his disguise near the beginning so it wasn’t meant as a big reveal to everyone, just to Huang Shang Rong.
Perhaps this exchange can give a glimpse to this couple.
I’ve already email Moonblossom my comment b4 she posted the novel so I’ll include it here for every one to read since it is not top secret:P
This book is such a short & hilarious read. I like it bcos the boss is a powerful female, yeh girl power lol. The guy is funny & sweet too. It is a refreshing change from the typical C-novel where the guy will bully the girl. Here, we’ve 2 equally capable leads. The epilogue is the best, have me laughing like a crazy woman, haha…..The supernatural bits are kind of weird but not significant enough to be off-putting. Highly recommend for a light & quick read:)
I wanted to recommend it to my viet friends but unfortunately nobody has translated it into Viet:(
I get that the female lead is older than the male lead. Just out of curiosity, how many years older is she?
If I remembered correctly, you seem to have this double std that you don’t like your female to be older than your male but you like novels with uncles & little girls, lol. I think only a few yrs, no big deal but MB can probably give you a precise answer. Read it with an open-mind, it is quite fun:P
I did a quick check but can’t find it. Offhand, it is around 5-8.
Huh, such a big gap? I tut I read, 3 or 4 yrs but don’t quote me, haha…..If 8 yrs, Xinn will run away faster than the lightning lol.
Whoa liao… with such expectations, I did another check and found it quite by accident – 4 years.
His ancestors must be blessing me. : )
Thanks MB. Hahaha, indeed I do have good a memory:P
Considering that you just read this, I’ll say, yeah. Good memory! : )
Amazing. Just 4 years difference and she is so much more capable. Not that she is perfect, but she really is the go-getter.
You guys are great!! One little harmless question and you guys went out of your way to get me the answer. I am eternally indebted…haha…
But Peanuts remembers well, I cannot accept the ‘her’ older than the ‘him’. But it’s fine by me if the ‘him’ is older than the ‘her’ by a million years…..I read so many ‘uncle’ books that I cannot remember exactly how many….
But thanks anyway….
I haven’t read a single book where the guy is an uncle! The only one where the age gap is slightly bigger and which I thought is enjoyable is 保育类房客 by 米包. I was just telling Peanuts that author is quite good. If he is senior enough for you, you may want to give the book a try. He should be in his thirties while she is in her early twenties. She is no beauty and a little round, but she is very intelligent and hardworking and he fell for her. Other than old, he is rich, handsome and a bit.. fatherly? But they are pretty good together.
Mb, thanks for the lead for 保育类房客. I just checked it out, looks like a fun read. Let me finish DM’s Best Years first, then I’ll come back for it.
No English translation?
Hi Moonblossom, I’ve just picked up this series. When I eventually finish it (slowly but surely) I’d like to turn it into a PDF file. Could I use your summary?
(Also already included it in the Novelupdates post)
