This is the exact medicine I need now. Been suffering from countless of non-wifi days in the mountains of Xinjiang. Finally seeing some skyscrapers today but still not home yet. Sigh…….but happy mid-autumn to everyone.

Maybe besides Ling Cao (from Tuzi YaDao Wo Bian Cao) and Xiao Xiang (from Two of Us Are Not Familiar), this is a first time for me that the male lead is not powerful, invincible and super rich. And haha….. he’s a chef!! But what a cute chef he is.

A heartwarming story of a poor young university drop-out who worked his way up to become a successful chef and restaurant owner. I was rather amused both at the male lead and at myself. Yin Ze is never serious, you never know if he really means what he’s saying or if he’s just pulling your leg. I’m amused at myself becoz I was totally taken in by Yin Ze although I always thought I was very biased towards only one type of male leads (powerfully rich, handsome, black belly…….). And suddenly, Yin Ze’s charms crossed my path….he even has wrinkles round his eyes. So sweet…

The plot is simple, the storyline is straightforward, but the book is funny and real enough to hold my attention right to the end.

This book is so funny. The main guy, his niece and his dog are so adorables. Why children in the books are way more cuter then in reality ? sob sob

Yes, I totally agree. At first when I read this book, I just enjoyed it because it was so positive and funny and romantic but I did find it a wee bit long. But after reading more c-novels, I realised that at least it remained v good from start to end! Highly recommended.

This book is so funny. Yin Ze is such a charming rogue, he makes me want to marry a chef now. 😛 I also love his adorable dog, and his niece, she is like a female version of her uncle. What will she be like once she grows up? Who will be the poor chap who will end up with her?

Thank you for posting about this book.

Me too, me three….keeping fingers crossed the author will write about the little girl all grown up. Only thing is, if Yin Ze cameos in the book, he will be old and grey by then….what a dilemma….

As much as I like its sister book “Ambiguous Relationship”, “Hey, Don’t Act Unruly” is a minor letdown. The characters are adorable but I don’t quite buy why the OTP fell for each other. The final showdown where Yu Lan vs Former friend plus ex turns out to be a non-event, and there is nothing note-worthy about that incident, other than Yin Ze’s proposal with a salmon and lettuce bouquet.

That said, there are quite a number of funny moments in the book. But the part that I remember most is this semi-serious conversation that goes something like this:

Yu Lan: “If your sister and I were to fall into the river at the same time, who would you save first?”
Yin Ze: “I will teach you how to swim before you fall into the river.”
Yu Lan: “If this were to happen before I learn how to swim, who would you save first?”
Yin Ze: “I will teach you how to swim before you fall into the river.”
Yin Ze: “You are skirting the question and why are you so certain that I can swim?”
Yin Ze: “The woman I love will definitely know how to swim. Imagine a woman who refuses to pick up swimming and whose only avenue is to wait for rescue in the event that she falls into a river. Even if I disregard my own safety and rescue her, she will likely blame me still for not rescuing her first. Now why would I fall for a woman like that?”
