He fell in love with her at a time when she didn’t know who he was. He wants to give her all, but he needs time. She is also the same, she was not able to resist his clear eyes. What shouldn’t have started, often ends up happening, and once it starts, it can only sink into sweet happiness and pain. He said, “Don’t think of about the future, leave the future to me.” She said, “I don’t want a future, I only want the present.” Can they really do it?
[Audiobook] [Ebook] [Radiodrama] [Drama] [Audiobook] [Tình yêu thứ ba][제상좀애정]
I briefly sampled this novel, considering we don’t have many modern choices. This one is among the top 100 novels on a list most of us has seen already. So far it’s been pretty worth-while. It’s also made into a drama and is going to broadcast in 2013, hot cast.
The main girl in this story is a divorced lawyer, who fights for the poor and helpless. The main guy is the second son of a large enterprise.
The audiobook is pretty good, 2 voices.
Sounds interesting. I’m more open to reading modern novels now after ‘Life is a Twice-Blooming Flower’. Do you know who’s in the drama cast?
李光洁 and 张歆艺. I’ve never watched them before but they look good. Lots of drama under their names also.
I’ve read a lot of positive reviews for this. This is a good story, but I think it should come with a warning in case the readers expect a happy ever after that we usually expect from romance novels. The main female character reminds me of the one in Sealed w/ A Kiss b/c they’re both the “third” person in the relationship.
I’ve only read the first few chapters and skimmed through the rest. Usually, I try to stick to stories with a happy ending b/c a sad ending can really get me down. Though in this case, I sympathize with the main female character’s decision in the end considering how her sister died. One of these days, I’ll be brave enough to go back to read this more carefully.
Didn’t know a drama is being made. A happy ending won’t be realistic (unless they take out the sister’s death), but I don’t want a sad ending either. I hope they’ll go with an open ending where there might be a possibility that the main characters might get together again. That’s the best scenario for me.
Oh dear, i didn’t expect a sad ending. I guess makes sense, considering how the story opens with her sister’s attempt at suicide. I was wondering how they would pass that hurdle after they do fall love. Did the main guy end up marrying? If he doesn’t and she doesn’t, than possible for an open ending.
I remember now that I’ve watched the female lead before, in another book to drama production called give me a cigarette. She’s good.
After reading this, I no longer want to marry a rich guy XDXD
I’ve only skimmed the story. The reason this gets such good reviews is b/c a lot of the readers say the characters are realistic and their decisions match with their personality, unlike the usual romance story where sometimes the main characters are not written consistently b/c of the push for the happy ever after ending.
[SPOILER!!!!!] [SPOILER!!!!!]
From what I remember, the little sister acts like she’s OK after the suicide attempt, but at the end, she committed suicide again and succeeded. I can’t remember if it’s b/c she found about that her older sister’s relationship w/ the guy she’s in love with. Before she jumps to her death, the little sister did say that she’s still in love with him. Hence, her death is b/c of him, in a way. This is why the main female character decides that she cannot be with the main guy in the end (a decision I completely understand). It’s like Eastern Palace. How could you be with someone who’s responsible for the death of your family (directly or indirectly), no matter how much you love that person?
As for the main guy, I think he did marry the rich, bitchy girl. He continues to stay married to her to solidify his position. So between love and power, he chose power. There’s been lots of debates from readers about this, with most agreeing that in real life, between love and power/wealth/money, the man will chose the latter. So in the end, the main guy ultimately gets what he wants, which is power/wealth/money, but he’s miserable b/c he loses the only person he loves so he continues to cuts himself.
Oh dear,
I don’t know if i can read this.
Thank you for the spoilers. No matter how good is the review, I gonna stay away fr this book as I’ve a weak heart:( I read novels to escape fr reality:P A dash of realism is okay but not overly much. Also, I dislike power hungry guy so this is a no no for me. He can waver in his choice but must utimately choose the girl.
Novels and dramas are my escape too. Happy ending is a preferred, an open ending is acceptable. They make us dream the unlikely, but i’d rather keep dreaming than be hopeless. =)
I don’t like this book that much. Maybe it’s because it’s too realistic but I pretty much loathe everyone in here. Zhou Yu doesn’t have any dignity as she is willing to sneak around with an engaged man. As for Lin Qi Zheng, a quote from Liu Jue in Man Man Qing Luo comes to mind. Liu Jue asked Zi Li: “If you truly loved her, how can you bear to make her suffer as a mere concubine.” If Lin Qi Zheng truly loved Zhou Yu, how could he bear to make her suffer as a mere mistress? Gao Zhan Qi and Zhuo Hui both say that they have feelings for her and will wait for her, but both leave her for other girls. And her sister Zhou Yue is just pathetic… Committing suicide for a man who barely knows that she exists.
The book is rather boring, as it’s mostly about how Zhou Yu longs for Lin Qi Zheng.
You went and finished it? I think I’ll pass this one, i don’t like characters like this and the decisions and flow of plot is too realistic. I don’t like selfish people that won’t give up anything. I think if i want another modern fic I’ll do the other modern fic that atsu recommended. i’m skimming through several right now to add to my future read list. Have u finished Gua Ren?
Yeah, I just finished. I definitely don’t recommend this book. Some books just pull you into the story but this one made me feel like I was just a someone passing by, scornfully smiling at them. I didn’t shed a single tear because I really don’t think anyone deserves my pity. They made their own faulty choices and deserve everything they got at the end.
This book did make me think a lot though. My mom told me that it’s very common for wealthy and influential men in China to have one or two mistresses on the side. They would keep them by their side for a few years and if the women got pregnant, they would send them overseas, arranging a house and a bank account for them. I appreciate that this book was able to show such stark reality.
Even though I know that Zhou Yu did not stay with Lin Qi Zheng for his money, the way he treated her made me feel rather dirty. When he handed her his credit card, bought her that 260,000 RMB necklace, and offered to arrange a house for her, I felt that he really was just treating her as a prostitute. He should have seen that she didn’t want all that, she just wanted to hold his hand and walk down the streets like a normal couple.
Another thing that really bothered me were the NAMES in the story. Seriously, couldn’t the author be a little more creative and choose names that actually sounded nice or seemed to have a bit more thought put into them. Zhou Yu (Rain), Zhou Yue (Moon), Zhou Tian (Sky), Ding Jia, Zuo Hui all sound absolutely terrible. Ugh, *shudders*.
2/5
Nope, haven’t finished Gua Ren yet. I got sidetracked, but I do plan on finishing it. Eventually. 😀
For some reason, I’m having a hard time getting hooked onto Once Promised.
I personally liked this story, but that just might be because I like angst and tears with my romance.
I think that their relationship would never work out in the long run even if Zou Yue and Jiang Xin Yao didn’t exist. Lin Qi Zheng has no way to keep her by his side no matter how much he wants to. He said to Zou Yu, “If I gave up everything for you, would you still love me?” Zou Yu told him no. Even if she meant it to keep him from doing something reckless, it was probably detrimental to Lin Qi Zheng’s self-confidence about their relationship.
Jiang Xin Yao is just a representation of the type of girl Lin Qi Zheng would marry. Even if she didn’t exist, Lin Qi Zheng would marry whoever would best solidify his position as his father’s heir. Zou Yu can never be that person. Zou Yu is also intelligent enough to know that if Lin Qi Zheng gives up his life’s ambition for her, he’ll regret it.
Zou Yue probably needs to see a psychiatrist for her delusions and extreme reactions. Her family probably should’ve checked up on her and watched her more often. Her death is the reason Zou Yu broke up with Lin Qi Zheng decisively. Otherwise, they probably would be on-and-off for a long time.
I see this novel as the Slice of Life genre, just a page in someone’s life. These are torturous to read for me. I also like angst and tears, but sometimes when it seems like an impossible relationship, I just can’t push myself to finish reading it. I find it more acceptable if either the main girl or the main guy died, leading a tragic ending, but at least they tried there best and stayed true to each other till the end. Maybe I just like stories that tell how strong love really is, not how fragile it is in reality. I like to dream. hehe
Is there an online version of these books to read and what is the link? Thanks so so much
Added the link to the first post.
Thanks so much…will try now
I read that this is currently being adapted for a TV drama. I wonder if the ending will be like the book or changed to a happy one. If the drama still includes the female lead’s little sister commit suicide because of the main guy, I don’t see how they can be together. I read complaints that the cast is not good-looking, lol.
Wah, you can’t read Chinese but your news so up-to-date. Sorry lah, if cast is not good looking, I’ll not watch this drama. Yah, I am shallow:P Anyway, I didn’t read this book after knowing the ending & reading xiaoyuer’s comment. But I know it is very popular bcos it is very realistic. I like fluff, lol.
This book is definitely not your style. Non HEA, selfish characters, and little fluff.
But sometimes, when I think about the book, I feel bad for Lin Qi Zheng. I don’t feel bad for Zou Yu, though, she seems strong enough on her, generally. Lin Qi Zheng really does deserve some pity once in a while.
Actually I am quite tempted to give this book a try. I know it is not my usual style but after eating candy for too long, I do long for some bitter toffee, lol. Maybe, suddenly one day I’ll read this to see whether Lin Qi Zheng does deserve some pity.
Btw, my friend just finished a 虐死我了 book which you might like – 我只是难过不能陪你一起老. Needless to say, from the title you already know this book will end in tragedy:(
Well, I read it a while ago and it’s quite addicting. You sort of want to pluck the characters from their reality, but then you realize they’re stuck, and then you realize it’s just a story. I was very addicted, but ended up being a tad unhappy with Zou Yu and Lin Qi Cheng. One thing that did annoy me was the amount of coincidences that helped them get together, but other than that, it really had my attention. You should try it, Peanuts! 🙂
By the way, finished Wei Wei Yi Xiao. So fluffy. But it was a nice offset to Chong Zi. I’m at the part where they go to Kunlun Mountain, so hopefully I can catch up with you soon!
Oh Atsu, you’ve returned for the weekend, lol. Is the audiobook quality good? One or multi voices? With you & skyblu tempting me, I am seriously contemplating starting this book as I’ve read too many fluff:) If I do read, I gonna skip the ending, lol.
Wei Wei is nice bcos of Xiao Nai, haha…..Chancy is very into the book leading to her addiction to online game, probably in her quest to find Xiao Nai, lol. Thereafter I read another online game book which I feel is better than Wei Wei but there is no audiobook.
As for Chong Zi, I am stuck at chapter 40 still fuming with anger over that stupid shifu. cxt8 gonna do another book sort of like Chong Zi & I wrote to C gege lobbying him not to take the role of the shifu. This is his reply, 不得不表示,,演神马,不是我决定的。 要是把你心中挚爱的某个形象摧毁了,咳咳。。.
What a joker, lol. I am still thinking of a witty reply:P I am quite happy that he always reply my msg quite fast, lol.
Haha, yes, how did you guess? ^^
The audiobook quality is not bad, but it’s one female reader, so I’m not sure if you’ll like it. But it’s definitely not fluffy, and it makes you think about what’s right and what’s wrong. And the thing is, you can’t hate any of the other people involved in their love mess because most of the others are sane, reasonable people, with the exception of Zou Yu’s sister).
Xiao Nai….isn’t really my type. He’s cute, but in the dashing knight sort of sense. I don’t really feel any of the main characters really fleshed out, so I still like He Yi Sheng Xiao Mo more, but I really liked the game angle. I wish they would go back to it, even after Xiao Nai and Wei Wei met in real life. I really want to play online games too, after that, haha!
Ah, you lucky girl, Peanuts. I’ll check out whatever C-gege reads ^^ I think Hua Qian Gu is probably a better novel… We need to tell C-gege that he has fans in America too!
I can guess bcos I’ve my crystal ball, lol. The other book God Encounters God has the leads still playing the online game even after they’ve met. They are more funny & their relationship more complex. Their online game also interesting touching on identity theft, cyber bullying, game strategy, etc. Waiting for an audiobook to be made of such a nice book. There is an incomplete radio drama:(
C gege has just released a time travelling book but the intro just didn’t captivate my interest. Chancy & I are waiting for his other new book with Abu which should be awesome as it has the same author as Chong Zi. I’ll leave him a msg sending your love all the way fr USA, lol.
I just finished this novel & I like it, realistic as you guys mentioned and different from the rest of the genre. I can’t stand her sister Zhou Yue who lives in her own fantasy world and hurt those around her, they should have send her for treatment when she attempted suicide at the beginning. It would be good if author write a epilogue and gave a happy ending for the main gal.
Could someone please explain to me the title of this book? Because in the last scene of the movie with the same title, they were talking about the first and second way of love but they never mentioned about the third. Or there is no third way of love? Or the love of letting go? Or the love for her sister? I’m quite confused.
It’s really good…but why the hell her sister commit suicide…. I wish in the end the couple have a happy journey for futur with lead miss sister..
