I’ve not been reading much lately bcos I’ve been very busy & lazy. I read this book bcos of bongsd’s recommendation. It is written by a very famous Taiwanese author called Xi Juan. She is something of a successor to Qiong Yao minus the tears & the republican era. Since decembi & Moonblossom have posted Yu Qing, another famous Taiwanese novelist’s ancient novels, I see it fitting to at least post one of Xi Juan’s books. The drama Cuo Dian Yuan Yang starring Zhao Li Ying & Han Dong is adapted from her novels. She has also written some ancient novels & is a pioneer in writing time-travelling novel b4 Tong Hua. If you want to know how she looks like, check out my blog http://hui3r.wordpress.com/2013/12/06/how-your-favourite-novelists-look-like-part-1/. If you want to read more of her novels, click on the ebook link above as it is a website with probably all of her novels which may be abt a few hundreds. Hence, not all are good bcos she is way too productive, lol.
This is not one of her most famous novels. If you are interested in her popular novels, leave me a comment. Firstly, I want to tell you some obvious difference b/w Taiwan & China novels. FYI, Taiwan is the pioneer in romance novels & has influenced the mainland Chinese greatly. I like to judge a book by its cover so I’ve to complain. Most of the Taiwan novels have ugly or unappealing covers. They look outdated & very M&B feel. Compare the above cover which is the Taiwan’s cover & the featured cover which is the cover in the mainland publication. Another obvious different is the length of the novels. Most Taiwan novels are pretty short, around 10 to 12 chapters only so it is not draggy as the story is pretty compact. It can also get pretty addictive. Usually I can finish one in 2 days compared to China one, maybe one in 2 weeks or longer. But bcos of the short length, there is not much time for character or story development as some characters feel every one dimensional. It is like watching a movie. The subject matters for Taiwan novels are pretty diverse & some sound pretty interesting but at the same time also ridiculous so you really need to leave your brain at home. Also, some of the novels have shocking endings. If you think Fei Wo Si Cun is bad, wait till you read some of the Taiwan’s authors which I nearly got a heart attack lol. Another trend I notice is that the female characters in Taiwan novels tend to be pretty strong whereas the male characters are like accessories, not much character developments. Actually if the books are slightly longer like abt 20 chapters will be more ideal.
Bongsd’s wrote it’s about the main girl wants to XXOO her boss because she didn’t want to stay a CN. In front of him she acts like a girl with a lot of experiences. The boss is a playboy. But in the end he fell for her. It’s funny, because once she walked in front of him in another city, he talked to her but he can’t recognize her because she didn’t have make up on. Usually, she always has red lips, a lot of foundation, hair gel, etc…
I decided to read this novel bcos it belongs to the staff vs boss genre, haha…The female lead thinking is weird but I like her bcos I like eccentric character lol. But the male character is such a caricature who we don’t know much abt except he is rich & handsome. I feel their love is rather superficial. The woman has very advanced thinking. Although she is not really promiscuous, what she is thinking & doing is morally wrong. It is fun to read abt someone like her in a novel bcos one will normally never dare to think or has the courage to act like her.
In conclusion, I won’t say Taiwan novels or China novels are better bcos each has its own distinct style in telling a story. It all depends on what you are looking for. Sometime if you are short on time or bored with China novels, you may wanna give Taiwan novels a try, a bit of mix & match to enrich your reading life:)
Yuhuu peanuts 🙂 you want translate this? Haha
No, I am not going to translate this. I need to move on fr boss vs staff genre, lol. Don’t like this book enough to translate it. It is different fr the usual boss bully staff book bcos the staff is rather smart but the boss is boring.
In conclusion – Taiwan Romance Novels are the chinese equivalent of Mills and Boons? Lol.
Hi, wanted to check out this author’s books as written in your comment, Peanuts but the link for the ebook is not available anymore. Could you give me another link?
