peanuts, I hope you like 杉杉来吃. The plot is actually pretty thin, just a Cinderella-type story, and there’s no drama/angst/evil characters. Gu Man’s style is sweet and funny stories. Usually, there aren’t any major angst/tearker dramas/crazy secondary characters/terminal sickness. If there’s an evil character in 杉杉来吃, it’d probably be the main guy’s cook b/c he makes these awful dishes that the main girl has to eat…lol.
But I really like this story because of the main couple’s out-of-this-world cuteness!! The main girl is about as ditzy as Jin Mi in Heavy Sweetness. Hence lots of hilarious things happen b/c the main couple.

Gu Man, the writer is well known as being the slow turtle is very popular in the C-novel world. 2 of her modern novels got the top 2 spots on the top 100 novels poll. Lidge who loves to read comedy books is a rabid fan & I think she loves this book the most. Anyway her 2 other books which have been posted in SSB are well-loved by most of the scholars. I plan to listen to the radiodrama in the next few days for some laughs:)

How can u not known your boss especially he is such a gem, haha? Also, over my dead body will I let my boss have my blood, lol. I feel the big boss is typical Gu Man’s male lead, cool & domineering. Btw, I highly recommend u the audiobook for Good Morning, Miss Undercover !!!! Very entertaining & funny. That male lead very similar to the 2 books, ‘Hell’ & ‘Flash Marriage’ which you love:)
Hi Peanuts, I only started 杉杉来吃 yesterday after a major digression. Believe it or now, I took on 与狼共枕 (Sleeping With A Wolf)!!!! Then I realised, I’ve bitten off more than I can chew. It was an emotional roller coaster ride on 与狼共枕 , I couldn’t really handle the relationship between the two leads (still raging an internal debate, is it incest or is it not????). Nevertheless, it was a great book although I confess, I did not read it in its entirety. I also commented on this book on Seoul In Love Now site where I found the book.
But 杉杉来吃 is so sweet and fluffy, just what I need after Sleeping With A Wolf.
I reckon I should finish it by today becoz it’s so short. What wouldn’t I do to have a boss like Shan2…..I will eat all the liver…..you can take all my blood…..haha….such a fun-fun book!!!!

I gave up that book after a few chapters bcos of the age disparity, adopted r/s, gangster theme. If you like YLWX’s style, highly recommend u Wedding Night, Neighbour. That guy is really sweet & devoted but the opening chapter might not sit well with some ppl so beware. She also wrote an e’yer & e’yee r/s book but it is a lot more twisted than Shan Shan.
I’ve converted all the radio dramas into MP3 so I shall start eating Shan Shan tomoro, muahaha…Don’t stress yourself too much using google to listen. Try some audiobooks or radio dramas as they are really good & can give your eyes & hands some rest. Currently, I am obssessed with Miss Undercover audiobook,heehee….The other 2 Gu Man’s books are not as funny as Shan Shan. Wei Wei is rather sweet & dreamy. He Yi Sheng is a bit angsty & serious. Nonetheless they are still nice. If you like funny boss & staff r/s kind of book, give KAO a try. That one is hilarious.

As for more of YLWX’s books, I was thinking of doing 把爱错给了你 – Love Given to you by Mistake (about a scientist and his PhD student) but it would not be immediate. Meanwhile, I’m trying to find another romance with a heavy dose of comedy just so that I will build up enough buffer to tackle YLWX again. I am also concurrently reading Fifty Shades of Grey, I wish there was more than 24 hrs in a day. Right now, I really need to catch some winks, don’t want to be a longlost cousin of the pandas.
Oh, the radiodrama for Shan Shan is very nice bcos the girl’s voice is very cute & blur, just how I image her to be. Her interaction with the Big Boss is so funny. Why he kept feeding her liver, lol? Yuck, I dun eat that:P He also makes her pick his vege which I often do, haha….Out of Gu Man’s 3 books, this one is the most funny:)
Yes, the author wrote other books but they are not in print. The 2 you read are the best. Don’t eat too much of the same kind of food, give other books a try:) I’ll dig them out for you later:P

I have just read the rest of ShanShan’s story. In addition to the 18 chapters posted here, there is another 22 chapters, right? A total of 40 chapters?

My version got 41 chapters plus some epilogues. As far as I know first 18 chapters 100% written by Gu Man. The rest are some written by Gu Man & some fanfics. Give me the link of your version pls. Can’t you tell fr the writing style? Anyway, as long as you enjoy them, no need to worry if they are written by Gu Man so pls write abt it:)

There are other sites but most of which are not complete with one/two chapters missing. So far, i find the abv link to be the only one with all 41 chapters.
To recollect, the first half of the book, we were introduced to the fun, funnier and funniest of ShanShan.
Here, we pick up where we left off at chapter 18. We have poor Shan2 rejecting Boss 大人’s version of the so-called confession. Shan2 then seeks her buddy’s advice without revealing that she’s actually the person in the predicament. Shan2’s novelist buddy likens Boss 大人 as a gold card falling from the sky but without the password. To add salt to the wound, the buddy says even if she had the password, the gold card does not come with credit but liabilities!!
Although, we are still given our fair share of Shan2’s antics, there seems to be a turn in the second half of the book with touches of melancholy. We feel Shan2’s sense of insecurity as reality sinks and she realises that Boss 大人 and her are worlds’ apart. We get the real deal of the relationship as Shan2 questions why a wealthy aristocratic Boss大人 would fall in love with a lowly person like her?
We see Shan2 in tatters over her feelings for Boss大人 and their incompatibility.
Eventually Shan2 comes to grips with the situation and she tries to narrow their gap. I have to quote two lovely lines (maybe I will get to plagiarise them in real life one day if I am lucky enough to hv my very own Boss大人) :
我肯定成不了最好的人，但是，我可以做最好的我
我肯定成不了最配你的人，可是我要用最好的我来配你
But Shan2 is not Shan2,without some slap sticks. I was tickled to death when Boss 大人’s immaculate fashion sense was somewhat compromised and tested to the limit!! He had to wear a suit tailored by Shan2’s father who used to be a tailor. And Shan2 gave away her maiden kiss in a carrot patch which she found utterly unbecoming. But I wouldn’t have complained becoz I personally thought it was kinda romantic. And oh, the airport scene where they held hands for the first time was so sweet…eeee…so blushy-blushy.
Not to take anything away from the second half but I actually thought the first half of the book was more enjoyable. Maybe it’s becoz of the non-stop hysterical laughing moments that i got from it, but all things considered, it is a very commendable book. Lovely writing style. I love it!!! I love GuMan!!!

And I am not surprised that Big Boss did not make the cut becoz the book is almost entirely from Shan2’s perspective. He’s somewhat like a third party, he maybe vivid in our imagination but ultimately, he does not really stand out as a character in the book itself.

Hey pm, long time no hear, how are you? I didn’t know how to answer you then but I know the answer now after translating chapter 24 & consulting SS super fan, lol. xia fan means ‘easy to eat’ as you can eat your rice with a variety of dishes. In other word, SS is ‘easy to bully’, lol.
