  • Pls help as I don't understand what 承欢 means & google is not helping:( Thus, my English title sounds weird. Yes, I am taking a break from my happy & funny book as I got sick of those stupid female & black-hearted male leads. In this book, I'll say both the leads are abt the same being stubborn & strong.

Actually the storyline for this book is very old but what made me read it until the wee hours is the way the author wrote. Her words tug at my heart string. I won't say I am heartbroken but I do feel for the couple and long to read their story. At times, it gets kind of emotional but I am rest assured the outcome is a happy one. The author isn't XYW level but maybe a bit like FWSC but not a cruel step-mum. Someone mentioned the plot for this book is rather similar to an incomplete book called glass slippers by FWSC. Anyway, I do like this author style & plan to read more of her work. Hey lidge, read any of her book? She is not exactly funny but she is not flat.

As usual the book with a cute kid will get a thumb up from me, lol. Haha, I share lidge's fetish for adorable little kid in novels. At the beginning, I really hate the male lead. He is so cold & cunning. He used all kinds of foul means to force the female lead to give up the son & succeeded:( I take heart that she slapped him twice, I think, lol. Actually the 2nd male lead is very likeable as he is supportive of the female lead but unfortunately he'll never get the girl:( Btw, he has a grudge against the male lead bcos of what he did to his dad. As for the female lead, she is rather pitiful but don't worry she is a strong girl & will not give up easily. I like how she stood up to the male lead by refusing to marry him bcos she knows he doesn't love her.

  • I think 承欢 means to be filial to one's parents. There's the phrase 承欢膝下 which pretty much means being filial to the older generations. But if you break it down it could be from 承受, to accept, and 欢喜, happy. So happily accept?

Currently in drama-mode, so I won't be reading as much.

Thanks skyblu, I happily accept your help:P What drama is so engrossing? I am also watching, reading & eating all at the same time, lol.

Just finished Damo. Total tearjerker. It had incest that wasn't incest but was really endearing and tragic. Had so much angst and both relationship had issues. I am watching Legend, trying to catch up on Drama, Go, Go, Go, and planning to watch The Princess's Man. I gave up on my rewatch of BBJX since I still remember it too clearly and feel the need to fast forward. Still awaiting Da Mo Yao even if I liked Yun Zhong Ge better.

Huh, I thought you are not into Kdrama? I am into kdrama but just not into ancient kdrama as I don't like my leads to look pregnant, lol. I watched all of Ha Ji Won dramas except Damo. Tell me if Princess' Man is good as my friend has the DVD with English sub & I like that guy Park Shi Hoo:)

Did you watch a super old ATV drama called Secret Battle of the Majestry? It is not exactly BBJX but I feel it is as good if not better than BBJX. I thought Yumama is gonna start filming YZG but so far no news. I read that he gonna change it into a wuxia setting. I am not looking fwd to it bcos this will change the entire feel of the drama. What makes everything so impossible & angsty is Ling gege is an emperor. I hope cxt8 will read me the story one day but I am not sure I dare to revisit the story as it is just too heart breaking:(

  • I just watch few Kdramas. I think I finished less than 10. I like ancient dramas, they usually have so much angst, and usually more plot. I always thought hanboks look a little plastic baggish. Damo and The Legend didn't really feature hanboks a lot.

What is Secret Battle of the Majesty about?

I might watch Yumama's YZG but I would hold it completely separate from the book. I don't really understand how one becomes a "reluctant" wuxia leader. The book was absolutely wonderful, and Ling gege's last words are still in my head. And then sometimes I wonder about Meng Jue's might-have-beens.

  • Can someone who's read Yun Zhong Ge give me a summary? Specifically who she's in love with and the ending. Thanks!

Isn't it about the succession battle between the princes during Kang Xi's reign? I have the drama but haven't had time to watch it. Not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but didn't Kent Tong play a monk? I'm confused what role a monk would have in the succession battle.

Your long-lost twin is back, peanuts^^

Happily is not translated so can't read. Another work called 客官不可以 is currently being translated. I think it's 1/2 ways through. Another one called 步步错 is done so I'll check it out later.

I just finished FWSC's 寂寞空庭春欲晚. Agggghhh, so many feels~
Sad ending from #1 stepmom, of course. I'm still in a daze and trying to gather up feelings and piece them together, lol, though I don't think this ending is as tragic as Eastern Palace. Kang Xi is one of my favorite emperors (because he accomplished so much when he was young, not a fan of his later years because of the numerous kids he had and the succession problem). I love KX in this story and think FWSC did a great job in creating the personalities for Kang Xi and Lin Lang. I love them!!!! In the drama (if it ever gets filmed), I hope they stick to the story and don't sanitize it with a happy ending. I feel it's the melancholy tone of "loving someone but can't be with that person" that defines this story and makes it memorable.

Yah, I don't fancy hanbok eventhough I wore one to take photo while I was in Korea, lol. Somemore the guy wears a silly hat:P Sorry being bias & luckily no korean here but our chinese ancient costumes look so much better & with so many variety. Oh, legend is the one with Bae Yong Joon. Sorry, don't like him. You might wanna give Chuno which I heard good review a try. It is abt slaves. My friend recommends me to watch Queen In-Hyun's Man, a hybrid drama with parallel universe.

Secret Battle of the Majesties is abt 4th prince battle for the throne. How he changed from a nice guy to a ruthless one. Also, got an angsty love story with a woman. Since you don't mind spoiler, their ending is rather sad or you might think fitting. When I watched this 10 yrs ago, I chased it like mad with my friend. I wanted to rewatch a week ago but I can't find a Cantonese version online:((( I don't want Mandarin dubbed one:( If you found a cantonese version, pls give me the link. I feel it is one of the best historical drama produced in Cantonese so you must not miss it. It is quite long 60 episodes but interesting & exciting. It is dated as I think it was released b4 or at the time you were born:) but the guys & costumes still look good. See all the reviewers in spcnet also gave it 5 stars

  • I personally don't like the Qing dynasty and ancient Korean styles. Qing dynasty for the hair and Korean for the hair and outifts. I tried out a bit of Chuno, I lost interest somewhere near the beginning middle. Surprisingly, my dad is actually watching it since it's being broadcasted on TV in Mandarin with English subtitles. The Legend is a very fantasy-based historical. Of course, the female lead being the shua-lai and hilarious type keeps my attention. I wanted to find a Mandarin dubbed version since less is lost in translation btwn Chinese and Korean than Korean and English.

寂寞空庭春欲晚 is the one with Yuan Hong and Hawick, right? And, yupp, Secret Battle of the Majesties was made before I was born.

Yes, I don't like bald guys but I think xiaoyuer likes them, lol. I also go for the mandarin dubbed version bcos I am too lazy to read subtitiles, heehee..寂寞空庭春欲晚 might not be filmed, I heard. In Love with Power will be released soon in a week or 2 time. Arrrrgh, I am going to chinatown now trying to dig a Cantonese copy of Secret Battle of the Majesties but I think chance is slim bcos this is so dated. Hey lidge, i bet you saw this in viet b4 right? I even found a viet version online but no cantonese:( why why:(( I just saw a fan made mv & trigger my love for this drama, lol. I would have bought a copy yrs ago if not of the sad 2nd part & ending:( Check this out skyblu.
