He was a smart emperor with civil and military skills; he was the top gifted scholar in Qing Dynasty with a brilliant career and dull aches only known to himself; she was gentle and intelligent, but was involved in the conflict between parties because of her father and brothers, and she became a slave of washing clothes in the palace. The deep love started from no reason; an instrumental ensemble led the three into a complex relation; the palace life was as lonely as the white pear flowers.

Another drama adapted from a novel broadcasting on 1st Feb. It is another novel written by the infamous step-mum Fei Wo Si Cun. I didn't read the book but I think it has a sad ending. I am allergic to FWSC's novels & I hope her novels will stop being adapted into drama. But I guess my wish will not be granted bcos she is a prolific writer like Grandma Qiong Yao :( Also, I m not watching the drama bcos I m also allergic to Hawick & Zheng Shuang.
Hence if you want a more detailed summary or have any questions, go & ask FWSC's fan, Seoul :)

Obviously this is not a review since I stated upfront, I didn't read the book or watch the drama. This is merely a personal comment to voice my thought as well as to provide further information.
Hmm, so according to the Viet link, it's Sad ending but Good ending. Have we all turned into sadists or is the sad ending actually good?
Longtime lurker, thought I'd finally contribute to the conversation! Spoilers below.
It's definitely not your typical "happily ever after." From skimming a summary, it sounds like Lin Lang is essentially ignored for twenty years because it's the only way Kang Xi can get his grandmother (Empress Dowager Xiao Zhuang) to not sentence her to death. Then when Lin Lang passes away, Kang Xi has a fit, spits blood, etc. It's kind of like the ending of Bu Bu Jing Xin.. except without a doting 14th Prince to accompany the protagonist in her dying days. Doesn't qualify as a good ending in my books.
Is anyone watching the drama? I'm not a fan of Hawick or Zheng Shuang but got drawn in by the pretty costumes/coloring/music. It's probably not a great sign that my favorite part of episodes 1 and 2 were the kids, but I'll give it a few more episodes before deciding whether to drop it.
agree with you. The kids too were my favorite in the show.
Hey, I am currently watching this. So far so good.
@pandapop. : what? This is why I hate historical dramas. We go through all those useless and eye-aching filler scenes (which usually consist of the heroine being tortured by the villains until she’s half-dead) only to end up with everyone and their grandmothers dying. Why???? Why such sadism? Now I don’t know if I’m going to continue watching. Everything will seem pointless in the end.
OMG!!! I know now why I don't watch historical dramas, I hate BE... but I keep watching this one. Maybe I'm masochist.
Also I agree with you guys, the kids were my favorite part too. Well I suppose that I would stop watching this any time soon.
i am currently watching this and it is corny and full of unbelievable story lines. It is like watching the "Kardashians". but the production values are good to excellent and the dubbing is by the actual actors e.g. Hawick's own voice etc. And last but not least the language is generally simple and my limited mandarin is sufficient to follow the plot.
On a historical note: Emperor Kangxi was suppose to be one of the most hardworking rulers but Hawick's version doesn't seem to do anything but follow the girl around or get her out of trouble and make concerned googly eyes at her.
Does anyone know any other novel about Kangxi ?
