Viet title: Phượng ẩn thiên hạ
I started this some time ago but found it boring so I dropped it after a few chapters. Recently, I read a good review about it, except the reviewer said the story only picks up after the female lead hides her identity as an eunuch and meets the male lead again. I decided to skip a huge chunk of the beginning and began at chapter 68.
Overall, I found this to be a good plot filled with many surprising twists and turns. Plus, there’s a lot of cute humor, particularly when the male lead thinks he’s gay because he’s attracted to the female lead in her eunuch disguise. Give this a try if you’re in the mood for a good ancient romance. I love the title because only after I finished the story did I realize how aptly the title fits with the plot. I plan to go back and read the beginning part I skipped when I have more time.
Oh hey, I saw the chinese ebook for this some time ago, but didn’t want to read it without a recommendation ( http://91baby.mama.cn/thread-918516-1-1.html ) ^u^;; I rely on you guys too much now ;~;
Hmm chapter 68 eh? So should I read the beginning few chapters then skip to 68 or just skip directly? Gahh, I want to read so many books, so little time T_T
I read the first few chapters, but that was a long time ago so when I picked it up again recently, I didn’t remember what I had read. This time, I quickly skimmed through everything in a few minutes until I got to the part where the reviewer said the story would pick up so chapter 68 was where I really started reading carefully. Anything that happened up until that point is explained in the later chapters so I don’t feel you’ll miss much if you go straight to chapter 68. But if you don’t want to miss anything, you can read everything from beginning to end if you want to give that a try.
The important thing is don’t get bogged down in the beginning and give up like I did because the story does get good from 68 onwards. Also, if you have any questions about the story, I’ll try my best to answer as much as I can.
hi lidge, am quite interested in the book. can you post a little more on the background description of the characters?
thanks very much 😀
The story starts off with the wedding of the main couple. She is a daughter of an important political family while the male lead is a powerful court official who is admired by all the young ladies in the kingdom. On the wedding night, the female lead is tricked into drinking poison and is divorced by the male lead. She is then shipped to a kingdom in the North to be married to the Emperor there, I believe. I didn’t read the beginning so not sure of the details but somehow she becomes a general and then mistaken as the Emperor’s lost sister. During this time, her family back home is killed by the male lead. She returns home to seek revenge. By a strange twist of fate, she enters the palace as an eunuch and becomes the Crown Prince’s trusted confidant. This is when she meets the male lead again and the story becomes interesting and quite funny. Everyone, especially the male lead, thinks badly of her because of her “shady” relationship with the Crown Prince, lol. However, the male lead slowly falls in love with her because of her intelligence, but he is tortured over this because he thinks is he gay, lol.
There’s a huge twist towards the end, and the hint is in the title. There’s a reason why I specifically translated it as “Hidden Phoenixes” rather than just “Hidden Phoenix” hehe. Let’s just say that the rebel is actually the legitimate heir, and the loyal supporter with a righteous cause is actually the rebel.
Thanks lidge for the summary!
To preserve the life of another beautiful woman, she is exploited and becomes a dispensable pawn. But she is not a weak person to be at anyone’s mercy. Her fate, she will control it herself. – who is the other woman in the story ?
Is this a happy ending for the main couple ? In the mood for a funny story with a good ending 🙂
the supporting female
yes, happy ending……they had twins at the end, a boy and a girl, lol
I was actually looking for a good ancient story to read, but then when I clicked on the link and saw 168 chapters……….holy moly! I like the introduction a lot, but I think I’m gonna have to leave this one for later.
If you start from chap 68 like I did, you only have 100 chapters 😛
I started reading the beginning. It was quite interesting that first part when she was in the Northern city. But then I got impatient and skipped here and there and then went right to the end just to find out what happened exactly.
Many birth secrets and then some more hidden ones ! Now I understand what you meant about the title lidge.
Am going to read the parts I missed to get a better sense of the story.
Funny how it started with no one wanting her and then after that everyone wants a piece of her >.<
Lidge one thing puzzles me. Who is the person who put the poison in Yuan’Bao/Hua’Zhu’Yu and who was the one that told them how to get rid of it from Ji’Feng’Li?
This part is in chapter 166. HZY suspects the person who put the poison was her teacher. At first, they could not find a cure, but when HZY had the baby, it turns out that the baby’s umbilical cord is the cure for JFL.
this was a really awesome recommendation thanks.

I found this book to be rather mixed, probably because I spent more time on the beginning and fell in love with the other male lead.
If you liked 孤芳不自賞, then you might like this book – a lot of court intrigue, and the heroine is cherished not for her beauty, but for her intelligence and talents.
I preferred the other male lead too.. ( The guy who put her in the prostitute camp right?) I felt so bad for him throughout the whole novel. 🙁 I shipped the wrong pair… but I’m willing to settle for the OTP in the scene where he is executed and he says something like, “has your hatred been lessened?”. My favorite scene in the whole novel. I cried cause it was so perfectly written…
ANYWHO!
Ive been stalking this authors other novels. If you like other novels that are vengeful and with strong female leads like this one, you should try 盗妃天下 by the same author. I really liked that one even though its not as great as this one.
I’m thinking of reading 雪山圣女,has anyone read this one yet?
恩儿、
Who’s the male lead?
Male lead is her husband JFL..But I don’t like JFL until at the end of a few chapter.I love her so-called brother (actually not real brother just the twist of fate)..He is so pity,at first he lost her because he think she is his long lost sister.and the second he lost his memory everything related to her ,Well that part is complicated but I’m sure That’s not his fault not to remember her (he even injury b’coz he try to remember her). And the third he lost her b’coz she fell in love with JFL. He try his best to protect her, love her and pet her.Well that’s just my opinion ..Maybe I have second lead syndrome!; ).Anyway that’s pretty good novel.#^_^#
SPOILER ALERT BEWARE
i totally was shipping her and the “brother”. Hes so dang romantic… but JFL is not bad either, he grew on me especially in the end. Kinda wish the brother found another lover… but i know i wont love him as much if he does… sigh. such internal conflict.
Can’t wait for the translation – right now only up to chapter 7 is available
tskt talk been waiting since hooked ;(
Geez … are people really shipping the guy who tortured her by breaking all 5 of her fingers??? No matter how sweet he turned out to be later on … (not reached that part yet) … how could any sane person forget that hurt inflicted no matter the reason.
@exupery10 well, when considered that the main lead may or may not have raped her – the guy who broke 5 of her fingers due to both being political enemies, seems pretty good in my opinion.
Anyone know where I can find the audio book link? The one posted does not seem to work, tired a google search and did not find anything. Thanks for the help!
@DancingUgly LOL … after finishing the book I kind of know what you mean. Anyway, I really did enjoy this book and was doing a marathon on it … I must be a sadist though. Didn’t skip any chapters and was kept hooked from beginning to end.
And since I knew which ship will sail from the spoiler here … I wasn’t too disappointed with who she end up with.
The translation seems to stop. I listened to the audiobook instead. Found another book by the same author called 错妃诱情 and hopefully someone will do a review on this book. I kinda of like this author but you tend to see her writing style which is similar to Hidden Phoenix that has angst, poisons, one FL with few suitors that you may worship the wrong ML.
There are many strong female characters in a lot of ancient novels I’ve read but I have to say this one is my least favorite. The story is so dog blood and I even read from chapter 1 to the very end to just get it over with. There’s better out there with more comedy and more sweet interactions between main characters. It’s just not worth the read.
Please help me
I can’t find the end of the story I’m stucked in chapter 162
