The most far off distance in the world,
is not that I am by your side, yet you do not know that I love you.
It is that you are by my side, yet I do not know that I love you.
Or, that we are this close, yet one must go left, and the other going right.

Many years ago, Zheng Xie vowed, “If I am to have any other thoughts about He He, than let me be struck by thunder!”
He firmly believes that the rationality is much more stronger than emotions.
Many years later, in ways that he had never expected, was struck by both thunders and earthquakes.
[Ebook] [Audiobook] [Mua Dây Buộc Mình][Eng Translation][작충자박]
I like it so far. Very funny in a dialogue and character way. 作茧自缚 is about two person who known each other for 20 some years. A Amy audiobooks but a very good one without those copyright things. I think its not even an Amy one because intro style is different.
Yes, it is an Amy one. I saw this book b4 but I didn’t give it a try bcos i got scared by the book cover of ‘a pair of tied up hands’. Are u sure this book has happy ending? It looks like an emotional roller coaster book. Anyway, let you be the guinea pig & test the water for me:P
Chancy, are you reading 作茧自缚 by 飘阿兮? I’ve read this a few months ago, and for some reason kind of missed it so I re-read it 2 days ago.
Yes peanuts, happy ending for the main couple.
I like this story, peanuts. It’s about 2 ppl who grew up together but afraid to confess that they like each other because they don’t want to ruin the friendship. The main guy doesn’t think the main girl likes him so he ends up dating a lot of women who remind him of her. Ironically, the main girl misunderstands and thinks he’s a player and that he’s only protective of her because during a botched robbery, her dad gave up his life to save him.
Thank you !!! I am going to download it now, hehe…Wah, you are really a book worm, haha….You’ve now earned the title of guru/shifu/expert of Chinese romance novels in our bar, agreed Chancy:)?
Since lidge said it is good, post it post it quickly to tempt xiaoyuer & atsu, hahaha….Also, you are hijacking my book’s post:P Oh, I am listening now. The voice is the same as Zhao Mo Sheng. Actually Amy’s audiobook is quite good, just hate the repeat warnings.
I just finished chapter 5. It is ok but not as good as Chatters as the story is quite slow & not intense enough. Also, A’Shou is a better reader. Wah, got 75 chapters so long.
Meaning you read it, but felt like re-reading it?
I really like it. So far it has a very realistic feel to it, but very warm feeling from reading it also. Highly addicting. I like the main girl and the main guy a lot.
Yes, I read this quite awhile ago. Off and on, sometimes I do go back to skim my favorite parts. Two days ago, the stress got too much so I wanted to read something cute & funny to feel better so I did a full re-read of this.
It’s really only just 30 some chapters because each chap is like 6-10 mins. I can’t make a diet out of A’Shou and Si Lu Min Yin’s audiobooks, need more choices. lol U can pause now, I’mma keep reading on. I really like the main girl, she’s very funny. And mainly because I like the warm feeling from this book. Her father is a policeman, so this kind of sacrifice is realistic. How much Zheng Xie’s family care for her effects her life is very interesting too, it made her very lonely.
Dear Lidge, have you read this book: 浮生梦 三生约? Peanuts! Xiao Yuer! A’Shou has revealed her next book, it’s XianXia with a unheard of guy and C-gege.
On the surface, the story is filled with cute moments between the main couple. But underneath that, it slowly unfolds and we find out a lot of things, such as why the main couple met as children, why their relationship has progressed to the point that it has, the dysfunctional aspects of their relationship, etc. This story seems sweet on the surface, but it’s actually rather bittersweet.
Wah, I am scared now. Don’t give us spoiler but is the bitter pill very hard to shallow?
Yeh ! Chancy, you must be estatic as Xianxia is the love of your life:P Oh C-gege as 2nd lead again? So, he won’t be getting the girl in Mirage & this book as well? Never mind, I am here, haha….I wonder if this book is R-rated, haha…
After you find out that the relationship between the main couple is not all roses and sunshine like it seems on the surface (I think it’s quite dysfunctional), you’ll love them more, peanuts^^
I like this kind of story. This novel captivated me very early on in chapter 1, usually when that happens I know the book will be a memorable one for me.
Waiting to find out why Zheng Xie promised what he promised and to who he made that promise. He He is also very relateable. I like her name, Xiao He He. Since I was raised in the US, my reading was taught in Mandarin, so when I read I read in Mandarin even though Cantonese is suppose to be more familiar to me. If I read in Cantonese it would sound so bad: Shao Wuo Wuo. While her mom actually used 和和 for her name because it sounds like laughing (hehe). I thought that was cute.
Oh, you naughty sister of mine:P, tempt me till my interest in this book has hit the ceiling. I gonna skip around to find out how dysfunctional, haha…Or, I’ll listen till my panda eyes pop up:)
I know right? he’s taking on 2nd lead roles now. Honestly, I couldn’t differentiate his voice from the male lead’s voice. A Shou says he’s awesome. R-rated, hehe……Xian-Xia and those scenes don’t really mix, so I don’t think so. This book doesn’t seen as popular, but if A Shou picks it, than I’m hoping it’s a burried gem.
AND, I’m more wuxia, but there isn’t much wuxia out there that are female targeted, so Xian-Xia comes next. I think I just like ancient time novels as long as it’s not dominated by palace stuff.
Yah. lol Reading lidge’s comments makes me want to read further too. Luckily I have no more classes this week.
I just finished chapter 41. I think I know where the story is heading. Hehe, all I’ll write is Chancy, you do have eyes for sensational & shocking books which is bad for my heart & health. Anyway, I am not complaining but praising your good taste, lol..
Btw lidge, are there anymore of your reread books which have not been posted by Chancy:P?
=) but ur so far! I only got to 19 yesterday.
U know what I like best about 作茧自缚? It’s the way the story is being told. The plot is being pushed forward by dialogues and actions rather than by narration. I don’t really like stories where we’re told how they feel or what they are thinking or what’s going on with them by the narrator’s pov. I like to think on my own as to where I think it’s going and what I think the characters are going through. Like when Zheng Xie meets that lawyer girl whose personality and likings are very similar to Xiao He He, that wasn’t pointed out by the narrator, but by a character inside the story. Following after is that lots of things she does and places she goes to also makes the audience very aware of their similarities without throwing that fact in our face in flat narration. That I really appreciate.
Finally got to the part where I found out who and in what situation did Zheng Xie make that vow to never have any other thoughts about Xiao He He. I honestly was scared that it was gonna be one of those situation where He He’s mom forces him to make that promise. That would be so cliche. The situation in that happened was very ordinary and natural for that kind of line to be said. The intro is no kidding when it says that standing so close and not being able to see clearly. Zheng Xie and Xiao He He are to close, so they can’t see each other clearly, instead they look for someone who they see each other’s personality and resemblance and so that’s why one would go left and the other go right. There’s no angst feelings, just a very light hearted bittersweet feel that they are so oblivious to their feelings. I think that the moment that they finally are able to see each other would be when they walk far enough and finally turn around and see each other, which is so cute. I think this is also where this story is heading.
I love this story!
haha yeah, i think i am the one that like xianxia more. Xian xia allow for more emotional angsty story. Wuxia is more male-dominated and action. Really look forward to more female-written ones though, because gets the best of both worlds romance & action-wise.
Zheng Xie’s fear of cats lmao
Ah!!!! Already tempted! I don’t know why, I’m just in the mood to read modern novels lately. And Peanuts keeps tempting me 🙂
I call this the “Getting in the Pool” effect. You get comfortable with the temperature of the water in the pool so you’re afraid to get out. Same with when you’re dry and not in the pool, you’re afraid to get in because it’ll feel cold in it.
This is an addicting book, can give it a try when you have alot of time on hand because you can’t put it down once you start reading.
Me too, me too. Oh Atsu, you must listen to this. The 1st half is rather light hearted & funny like Gu Man’s novel but once the secret is out this book becomes melancholy making my heart do somersault all the time. Plus those songs chosen are effective in enhancing the mood making me shed a tear or two:(
Actually sometime I do feel annoyed at them but bcos of the set up in the 1st half & their likeable personalities, I end up feeling rather sad for them. This book is very tame compared to Chatters & should be more acceptable to you. There is nothing terribly exciting happening but the way the author writes feel like she wanna squeeze my heart out, haha…I finished 80% of the book in 24 hrs:P
Thanks Chancy! Looks like I’ll be losing sleep again, haha!
And I will definitely check this out right away, Peanuts! Maybe as a well deserved break from the heaviness that is Once Promised. I love stories about friends falling in love!
Peanuts, do you the name of the song for the instrumental at the front of each ep? I recall hearing the song before, but since there is no singing, I can’t recall what is the song name.
I can’t chase up to you, I’m only at 30.
You listen till which chapter? At one point, I kind of got irritated with Zheng Xie & wanna shake some sense into him, lol but his interactions with Hehe’s cat soften my heart. Oh so sweet:)
I’m a fan of the You’re by my side, yet I don’t know that I love you type of love story between friends. I like it so much more than the girl who is by his side as his friend and secretly loving him. What I like more about this story is that they are not exactly friends, he’s more of a brotherly figure to her. He plays her grand father, her father, her uncle, her older brother, and sometimes her younger brother, yet she’s never thought of him as being her other half. I love this kind of story.
Agreed with everything you wrote, exactly my sentiment. We are like 2 peas in a pod, haha……Are you up to the release of the secret yet? I would have finished the novel if my laptop didn’t run out of battery:( Arrgh have to wait till tonight I only can finish this novel, I feel sad now, lol. I don’t know how sentimental are you but the 2nd half of the book feels rather melancholy for me. I didn’t really cry much but my wrenching heart plus the songs chosen made me shed a tear or two:( My eyes are all red & puffy now from the lack of sleep:P I can’t discuss much here without mentioning the secret:( Btw, I like the 2nd girl also. She is not annoying & is very understanding. I feel sad for her.
I’m at the part where he took He He home from the wedding of her friend. The kitty is so cute!! I keep thinking he might just get down and pet it but he never does. ahhhh the stubborn guy. It’s just a harmless little kitty.
Sorry, sorry, I know nothing abt songs or instruments. Later, you’ll get more love songs that will break your heart, haha….Oh so excited for u as u r heading for the secret soon. Pay attention as u might miss it bcos it is really not that obvious. This author is way too subtle. Oh, I feel like relistening again tonight once I finish, haha… This is Amy’s best audiobook so far. The music is good so is the narration & the voices. They sound like what I think they should sound. The only one I dun really fancy is Hehe’s bf. He is nice but sound kind of dumb & comedic, lol.
He is scared of cat bcos of something that happened in his childhood. Later, you’ll forgive him for his lack of love for the cat in this scene:P Add oil, add oil, u’ve a long way to listen, lol
yeah, compare with the friend complex in Twice Blooming Flower, I prefer this. It’s less angsty, not that I don’t like some pain juice, but so much less cliche and less predictable. I really like this. They keep thinking about each other lol. Like, He He will always take her bfs or potential bfs and compare them with Zheng Xie but it’s not deliberate, like something you really would do if you had a bro. Zheng Xie though, he really puts a lot of heart into her. lol I wanted to shake him when he says he’s thinking he’s like a guardian figure to her when she starts to get close to Shi Ling. Dads would be able to entrust their daughter to a guy if the guy is a good person and he knows Shi Ling is a good person, but I doubt he’s able to put her down still. That’s love dude, not fatherly love!!!
U meant this book is less angsty? Haha, u r in for a big surprise. Prepare to be drowned by the angsty later:P But the angsty is needed in the story & enrich your enjoyment of the story so it is a good thing, lol
I don’t find it hard to stomach or anything wrong with this kind of love. He is not his dad, step dad, god dad or adopted dad so it is not dyfunctional. They are not related at all, not even a distant one. Also he is only older than her by 4 yrs so reasonable. This beats the love for your teacher. Moreover this is a modern book so nothing taboo on liking someone close to you, someone who grew up with u.
Im at 47 now, my heart is twisting for him. Poor gege.
OMG ZHENG XIE T_T
He got hit by lightning alright.
My heart bleeds for Hehe more. He is not bad but I don’t like his wishy washy & confusing character in the matter of the heart. I mean I don’t really blame him entirely but he should be more clear-minded & decisive as he is older & has more experience in life.
Yah, considering she’s kept this secret for this many years. I haven’t gotten to his wishywashy parts yet. Sighs. If i were her i wouldn’t accept him just because he found out either, but the man should be more firm.
U know i usually don’t like when girls smoke, but with hehe i think it makes a very interesting image. Awkwardly cute. His choking on his cigarette was hilarious also.
If the bf was sounding more foxy like cgege it will make his character seem cooler.
i almost had a scare that the author was gonna add in amnesia. Thank goodness she didn’t. That was funny though. Very like him to pull a prank like that. Lol
Peanuts is wailing loudly & sadly bcos no audio book for this book. Why???? Chancy, pls ask someone in cxt8 or Amy to read it.
Peanuts can try 过客匆匆 it is from same author as this book. There’s a 2 part radiodrama.
Yes, bonus point for this author for being more imaginative. Actually I dislike the amnesia plot. I feel it is an easy way out, a short cut. You don’t suffer if you lose your memory. But Hehe has to live with the memory & act like nothing has happened. That is so painful & for 7 long yrs:( Grrrrrgh, how can he not know? I feel this Zheng Xie is too passive & has not done or sacrifice enough for her except boss her around.
In spite of all my rants, I’ll rank this book higher than Chatter bcos I feel uneasy with what ZYS has done, ZYS is not handsome enough:) & ZYS is too old:P I like the female leads for both books but the guy in this book is more likeable. This is a keeper to be relisten. Btw, this book didn’t make it to the top 100 list. This means my taste in book is rather different to those in China.
Haha, I found that yesterday & it is on my hit list after this:P
That book is this author most famous book & I think our Lidge must have read it. I need to consult her to ensure a good ending b4 I lose myself in it:)
The audiobook is very short. I think they edited a lot. I can’t get into the story if it is too short as I don’t have time to warm up to the characters.I think it is abt a divorced or soon to be divorced couple. I don’t really fancy this kind of story. KIV.
I did try 过客匆匆 but dropped it after a few chaps. Will give it another try later when I have time. From what I remember, the tone was more serious, and I was in the mood for something funny.
Happy ending for the main couple, but I don’t think it’s a spoiler since the husband also shows up briefly in this story. Remember the Olympics party that ZX brings HH to in the beginning? It’s mentioned in passing that the main guy in 过客匆匆 has patched things up with his wife, and they’re now happily living together.
Ohhhh… So its a side story. I will read.
I like it more than chatters for that reason too. Bossy is a way of love too, but not a good way. If u don’t care for someone you wouldn’t bother to boss them around. Im almost done with this. Will get withdrawal.
I’ve finished the book:( The last 10 chapters are back to being light hearted. My complain is there is not enough angst moments in their confrontation & reconciliation. It feels like Hehe is the one who did most of the hard work. Did I miss something as I didn’t really hear them mentioning how they come to like each other in a special way? Did ZX say that he is marrying Hehe bcos he loves her & not becos of what happened? I feel the last bit kind of anti-climax & a bit flat. Anyway it is very cute & sweet. Like Lidge I’ll relisten to this book whenever I need something light hearted to cheer me up:)
This is kind of off topic but don’t know where to post it. Becos I quite like Amy.com’s work, I tried to look for their latest audiobooks. But, I think they’ve ceased business at the end of 2009:( Oh, I hope cxt8 will prosper & not close down. Maybe I should pay something to support them as I feel kind of bad in downloading their works from other website.
Oh such a cute story & so sweet of u to translate for me. Thank you very much my dearest sis:) I’ll wait for you to finish your exam to get more of this naughty boy:) I like this funny book after reading your scene translation. Someone should do an audiobook of it. When will someone translate professionally all those wonderful Chinese books into English:(? I think there are many readers out there who will enjoy such books but I guess the market might not be as large as the Viet translations to be profitable.
Ok, I’ve officially crown this book as my most favorite novel over Once Promised. It’s the first time I feel this happy after reading a novel, this novel has the right amount of angst that tugs at your heart, but doesn’t leave it bleeding. Peanut’s describing this feeling as your heart being squeezed out is very similar feel as I have. This novel is also glazed with sweetness that left me feeling hyper after reading it. Romantic, I’m not sure, but it’s crazy cute of a novel. My mind is still very high up there, so I’m just blabbing.
A cute conversation from the end of the story:
He He says, “Hey, it seem like you’ve never said those words to me before.”
Zheng Xie asked, “What words?”
He He answers, “I love you!”
Zheng Xie says, “Me too.”
He He exclaims, “Hey! That’s too sly, doesn’t count!”
Haha, I like this conversation also:) I can’t believe you love this book more than Once Promised. I do love & enjoy this book but I won’t rank it as high as you bcos I am not entirely satisfied with the book. Towards the end of the book, I feel there is not enough angsy to sustain the momentum. It feels sort of flat & fluffy. This is a very appealing book with a bit of everything yet it didn’t give me much food for though or memorable. I just feel like I am dreaming through out the book, haha…Once I wake up, I don’t feel much for them anymore.
lol like Lidge, I’m keeping this book in my phone so if I ever feel down, it’s the book that I will pull up. I don’t know, but there’s something about this book that makes me really like it. the cat? I dunno….maybe it’s just because this was the only book I’ve finished in recency? I agree that it doesn’t have enough angst moments though, but for me I think that if a story doesn’t have the grounds for that much angst like this one, I’d prefer they just leave unnecessary angst out and keep it as a very light hearted read like this one.
U know? I’m eyeing a novel called “After watching the Fireworks.” I think that will also be a pretty alright read, did you try that one b4? Recently I tried one called, “Tell the Big Bear that I love her.” It’s soooooo bad. I think it might be similar to that Gu Man novel, but it’s so unconvincing and the audiobook is so confusing with the male narrator.
When I finished the novel, I also wrote occasionally I’ll relisten to this novel to lift my spirit. I think the author can make the love b/w them more angsy but she just changed gear towards a light hearted ending. Normally I don’t relisten to those books that impressed me the most bcos they are too angsy yet so memorable.
I think Fireworks is also from Amy broadcasting. You mean this one 看完烟火再回去? What is it about? Badminton? I don’t really understand the google translated English. What is Tell the Big Bear that I love her in Chinese?
It’s “Finish watching the Fireworks before going back.” Yup it’s also an Amy production.
The Big Bear one is 告诉大雄我爱她. So silly of me, the first time I was gonna read the title, the 她 totally skipped my mind and I thought 大雄 was a guy (which would have used 他 if 大雄 was a guy). I don’t think it’s a good book, or at least I have no patience to even get 1/2 in even though it’s a very short book.
I discovered these 2 books some many weeks ago when I had nothing to do and previewed about 20 books with anonymous readers just to see if there were buried gems. I booked marked a few to go back to.
Started this book this morning. It’s cute but not as enthralling as peanuts and chancy make it out to be. I’m so curious though, what’s the secret? If you won’t spoil me, at least tell me when the secret will be revealed! 🙂
Totally laughing at ZX’s reaction to the kitten. Hahaha.
I think during ep 40? about there.
Ok, I’m more calm now about my liking for this book. I think I should have 2 top 10 lists, one for most impactful and one for personal liking. This book tops the personally liking list while Once Promise tops the impactful one. This book is like cotton candy. He He is like a cat, I guess Zheng Xie is like a cat also. lol
The story is so cute. The 2nd female is not annoying either, which is a plus. I love the extras in which they talk about Xiao Xiao and Zheng Xie’s kids. Yao Yao Guai Guai, so funny. I’m surprised none of the adults objected.
There’s an extra??!!!
Can you link it to me? The audio book didn’t include it =[
I can’t seem to get enough of the OTP haha
I think her mom expected her to end up liking Zheng Xie because she herself also end up marrying the man she grew up with. Zheng Xie’s parents were also childhood playmates, so his father would expect this. His father really likes He He and his mom always wished that He He would be her daughter in law but didn’t want to force the kids. Everyone around them expected it but they were blinded by their close proximity. They stand too close to each other and want to find each there’s features in their dating partner. Zheng Xie probably doesn’t realize his liking for his fiance was because her personality is so similar to He He and that’s why he feels comfortable and familiar around her. For He he she always compares men with Zheng Xie, bit find them incomparable with him. They’re very cute this was through.
agree it’s not very enthralling. The plot and everything isn’t all that twisting and everything, but it’s nice. There’s parts where it could’ve gotten all angsty and things could’ve gotten a million times more complicated but I think if it really happened, I would’ve rolled my eyes and even probably tossed it. Maybe because since the beginning, I just really liked the laid back bittersweet feeling the story gave me. Even in it’s most low point, still feels like there’s a layer of sweetness over it. It’s a really cute story.
hehe and I’m not here to spoil you either =X
Oh, I didn’t mean the relationship. I meant the naming of their kids. The original petname yao(夭) could have meant die prematurely, and the second yao (妖), meant demoness. Then their second kid’s petname was guai(乖) but people thought it sounded like 怪, so when they call there kids, it sounds like 妖妖怪怪.
It is enthralling bcos we got sort of misled by Lidge on the secret:P Actually the secret is not such a big deal once we found out. But b4 that, I raced against time to reach chapter 38 where all is revealed, haha…Also, we were spellbound by their chemistry.
When did they talk abt the kids? It is in the audiobook? Huh, I must have fallen asleep, haha…
Actually I feel sorry for the 2nd female. She is so courageous to initiate the break up with ZX knowing he doesn’t love her. Quite annoyed at ZX for hurting her & not knowing what he wants.
Nope, it’s after the audiobook. Near the end, the audiobook actually skips a few lines or paragraphs here and there. I actually wouldn’t have noticed if I didn’t like to listen to audiobooks with the text in front of me. The fact that He He and Yao Yao didn’t get along from the moment of conception is hilarious, after she’s born, they fight over Zheng Xie’s attention.
Yupp, I also felt that Yang Wei Qi was a good second female. She backed out of a relationship with a guy who knows doesn’t love her, even though she knows that their relationship would be a peaceful one. She actually reminds me of Zheng Xie’s first girlfriend, Gao Mo Mo. She really thought Zheng Xie was a perfect boyfriend up until she met He He. Her line, “The most hopeless situation is not when he can never be what you hope for, but when he is obviously doing so much, but it is not to you.” He He’s first love was also ridiculous.
Zheng Xie almost lives detached from the world. Because everything comes so easily to him, nothing affects him a lot. And, honestly, he wasn’t really looking for love in his relationships.
Thanks for the info. I gonna get google to read them to me, haha….You are right abt man not looking for love in their relationships as the author in To our Eventually Lost Youth wrote it very well. She is rather perceptive & realistic in her a slice of life book. Have you read it? If not, i strongly recommend to you. Don’t worry, nothing unacceptable happened in this book. I like most of the phrases she uses in her observations on life & love. This sound rather heavy but there are also many cute & sweet moments too, plus an adorable cat, hehe….
He did love her because he said he wants to have her in his life everyday. He’s not one to say love though. But that was Hehe’s mom’s definition of love also.
I did want to get more clarification from Hehe though.
I am getting google to read me the epilogues. Haha, so funny. I like the conversions b/w them on those popular books they read. Have you read them?
I read those parts, but where is the alternate endings?
It’s not just the Korean one, this extra is a spoof of ridiculous ways it could go. Since most of them are short and funny, I’ll translate them.
American Movie:
Zheng Xie and Yang Wei Qi has a Western wedding.
Father: Mr. Zheng Xie, are you willing to take Miss Yang Wei Qi as your wife? In health and in sickness, in death, blah blah blah…
Zheng Xie: I’m sorry, you deserve someone better.
After giving Yang Wei Qi a hug, he turned and left. In the midst of the noise, Zheng Xie drove his car to chase He He who just left.
Taiwanese Movie:
He He and XX male is getting married before Zheng Xie.
During the wedding ceremony, Zheng Xie barges in, “He He, don’t marry him!”
He He: It’s too late, gege.
Zheng Xie: I love you!
He He: But…
In front of everyone, Zheng Xie goes forward are carries He He and leaves. The groom is dumbstruck and all the guests are frozen.
Hong Kong Movie:
Version A: During Zheng Xie’s wedding ceremony, Zheng Father’s archenemy hired someone to infilitrate, and when Zheng Xie and Yang Wei Qi are exchanging rings, he points a gun at Zheng Xie.
He He: No!
She runs forward in front of Zheng Xie.
Version B: The day before Zheng Xie’s wedding, Zheng Father’s archenemy hires someone to kidnap He He. Zheng Xie goes alone, singlehandedly defeats all the kidnappers, and when he carries He He to leave, a gun is pointed at his back.
These results of these two versions are the same. One dies of too much blood loss, the other dies of heart failure dues to grief.
Korean Movie: And of the extras, I like the different possible endings best. Especially the Korean one. “He He gets a terminal illness. Zheng Xie abandons everything to be by her side. On the day of He He’s funeral, Zheng Xie absentmindedly got involved in a fatal car accident.” (Doesn’t that sound familiar?) *cough*Autumn’s Tale *cough*
Japanese Movie:
Zheng Xie and He He visit He He’s father’s grave for the last time together. There is a sudden storm, the mountain collapse, in the end, they are together forever. (I thought this one was kind of weird.)
French Movie:
Fifty years later, Zheng Xie and He He call each other overseas.
“He He, in my life, the person I love most is you.”
“I know… Me too.”
China:
Many years later, after Zheng Xie and He He have their own family and are celebrating the New Year.
When little He He is taking an afternoon nap, little Xie uses a marker to draw on her face. When little He He wakes up, she found that she couldn’t wash it off, and starts crying. “Wu Wu, now I won’t be able to get married.”
Little Xie: All right, crybaby. If worst comes to worst, I’ll marry you.”
“Wu Wu, I don’t want to marry you.”
“Marrying me would be great. My dad likes you, your mom likes me. It’s settled.”
Zheng Xie and He He look at each other and smile, completely unaffected.
A complete mind twist:
He He’s taxi is going through a long tunnel. In front of them is a long chain of collisions, her vision turns black, and she is unconscious.
When she wakes up, she surprising finds herself in a traditional wedding outfit in a sedan. Bai tong (the old Chinese wedding ceremony), finishes the ceremony, and waits in the room with the red veil over her head.
She time traveled.
The long night past slowly, another person came into the room. She is very nervous, afterwards, her veil is lifted.
“He He?”
“Gege, why is it you?”
When the author lacks morals:
A few years later, when both Zheng Xie and He He have a family and live thousands of miles apart randomly meet in a different country, their memories of the past surged forward, and the two of them could not suppress their emotions, they had a one night stand.
After they wake up, they both felt regretful and decided to never meet again. But their love has seeped into their bones and their longing ashes.
Where will they both go, what will happen to their love? Please look forward to <>’s sequel <>
The most inharmonious:
Zheng Father: You cannot be together, because you are really siblings.
Zheng Xie: How can that be? When I was born, didn’t you not even know Aunt Lin yet?
Zheng Father, with tears: I don’t know what happened, go ask that NC writer!
Technically they’re spoof endings, but it’s hilarious to imagine them happening.
This made my day. lol @ the most inharmonious ending.
they labeled that the Korean ending? Why so many Chinese think that the tragic death from disease is the typical Korean drama ending? I always have to tell them that Korean dramas rarely end that way now days. That’s not the fad these days. Lol
I recognize the HK one, i think it’s 上海滩.
Hahaha, thank you very much skyblu for such hilarious translations. Japaneses drama or film tend to have weird ending. I like the complete mind twist ending best:P
Hey Chancy, you need to post 浮生梦·三生约 & move some of the comments there as this get confusing.
I agree, these are hilarious!!! :DDDD
Wahh, on episode 20 right now, but I want to read something ancient or xian xia more. I think I prefer super dramatic modern stories, like Please Listen to My Chatter and Life is a Twice Blooming Flower. This one is just too… slow and uneventful…
I did find one ancient where the main girl marries the main guy to help the man she like to take over his throne, but when she was successful with the.plan she Realize she is in love with the main guy (crown prince) . Dramatic enough? Its the reader fir the first flames.daughter audiobooks.
So was she successful in helping the other guy to take over the throne? What happened when the main guy found out her motive? Did they have a happy ending? Wah, what book is this? I am interested, haha…
I dunnnno. I didn’t read, I just read the summary, but I like the reader. The book is: 惑世娇莲.
Oh, I think I can’t get back into ancient book with sissy voices:( I am too used to modern novels with male voices. I don’t really like this audiobook. The main guy became the king but he is sick & become sort of retarded. I am used to cxt8 high quality so this sound bad in comparison:(
Lol that’s my problem now too. Seems to be the trend now to have at least two voices, so good thing
i want sequel for this… preferably the time travel one lmao. Time travel couple, even going together. I love it hehe
BUT agree. the inharmonious one is the best. it’s so wth!!
*high five*
lol second one I like best is the french one with the ending line ‘me too’ Zheng Xie that fox…
Not very experienced with french movies though. I only watched like 5 mins of one and didn’t even get to the ending.
thanks for the translations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol but it’s funny how in half of them they end up 2 different families o_O
but so funny i can’t help but nod my head like crazy. Esp the hk and korean versions. yes… feels very famillar.
Took a breather from Scarlet Flower for a few days and decided to fill in the with a bit of modern fluff and picked this one up again. This has to be the strangest book that I’ve read in a while though. I know you guys all loved it, but I didn’t…as much. It really picked up in the second half and was really good and the last ten or fifteen chapters were hilarious. But at the end, I really didn’t feel that Zheng Xie loved He He or that they should be together. It still felt more like a sibling relationship to me.
Yang Weiqi and Ceng Shi are really awesome second leads though. Especially YWQ. She’s a brave girl – not afraid to love and lose and to give it all. A little too perfect, but definitely not boring. And Ceng Shi is such a refreshing second male lead – one that has all sorts of problems but is all sorts of winning and understanding.
The thing about Zheng Xie and He He is that they feel like two-dimensional characters. I feel that the writer is really good at developing character tics and pulling pop culture references, but not so good at developing personality, character, and plot. ZX is so dull and I didn’t feel that he really loved He He other than being physically attracted to her and needing to take responsibility. He He was better as a character, but both of the main characters had no real trajectory and didn’t really convince me.
It was really entertaining and supremely funny (especially the end) but I was hoping to get inside these characters a little more (especially ZX). It’s not the most convincing OTP when you feel like they should stay siblings.
I read the extended endings that skyblu posted too! My favorite is the French one (so sweet!) but I think in order for any of those endings to work, I have to see the main characters need and love each other in more than just a sibling way. It must be really hard to write since the characters have known each other since birth, but it felt a little unsatisfying overall in the end.
Wah atsu, you didn’t finish the book while we were all reading, lol. At that time, I quite like this book but not as much as Chancy:P Probably bcos at that time I needed a book like this to even out some other books I was listening & peer pressure, haha… Thinking back now, I do agree with you that this book is pretty average. It has its funny moments but I did mention in some of my comments above there is something missing in their r/s. I don’t get it why he suddenly love her & wanna marry her towards the end of the book. Yah, the 2nd female lead in this book is the nicest I’ve ever read. The male lead is ok bco I’ve read better one, lol.
Hey atsu, chancy, raini, skyblu, lidge, xiaoyuer or anyone reading this, wishing all of you a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. May 2013 brings us more great audiobooks to enjoy, share & discuss. Heehee, I left a similar msg from us to our Cgege in English, lol.
To chancy, raini, peanuts, lidge, skyblu, xiaoyuer and anybody else reading this blog- Merry Christmas! Wishing you all a blessed holiday!! ^^
And haha, I’m always a step behind everyone, Peanuts 🙂 it was entertaining though…especially the end!
You, too. May 2013 bring more good books in general.
merry christmas to u all too! will be awaiting a new year that brings us many more happy moments and tons of new books. =)
I know what you mean – I complained to Peanuts that the first half is so boring until they got to the Secret.
I think the scene/point in the story that sold to me their OTP was when she was going back to her hometown, he finds out and rushes out of his meeting to the railway station. And then when they finally got on the phone, she tells him not to rush, to drive slower and she promises that she won’t leave until she sees him. And when he arrives, he picks her out immediately out of the crowd.
I think in one of the earlier comments, someone pointed out that s/he liked that the author doesn’t narrate how the characters – and by extension – feel about each other. She just tells you their actual thoughts and feelings and let you infer what you will from it. I think that train station scene was when I believed that ZX loved HH more than a sibling – although he’s so muddleheaded about his feelings and he doesn’t know how to express himself.
I really like the books by this author so far. Do you know any other book by this author? I have only read this one and 過客匆匆.
Any other books like these, if anyone knows?
Thanks =)
I’ve only read this book & 過客匆匆. You can try reading her latest book 小世界. Other books include 婚结 : 婚缘未了 & 晨曦之雾 which skyblu read b4 but she doesn’t really like it.
Hi Peanuts and everyone,
Thank you for the wonderful introduction to this entertaining novel. I have translated it into English for my friend’s reading and would be posting the translated version on this site : https://tinkerbellsan.wordpress.com/
Have a wonderful week ahead and once again, thank you for the lovely introduction.
