Generational Marriage 世婚 by 意千重 Yi Qian Zhong (HE)

One cannot ask for love in a generational arranged marriage; one can only hope for harmony between the two families.

She was reborn like the withered spring flowers.

They are the same events, but it is now an entirely different life. She knows the process, but she cannot guess the outcome.

She was reborn, not just for revenge.

She was reborn, not just to give herself another chance.

She was reborn, so that she could prevent tragedy and allow many others to receive much, much more happiness.

***

Male Lead: Only hope for one person’s heart, til gray do we part.

Female Lead: Ah, these words sound nice. But hubby, you’re going to let me manage all of our land and money, right?

  • -_- This novel was so, so long that it took me an entire week to finish. 476 chapters *tears*
But this is a serious contender in the slice-of-life & rebirth category. If you savor it slowly and not get too caught up in the end result, then it is a very interesting read. Through a series of family machinations, lack of communication and misunderstandings, the female lead's relationship with her husband deteriorated and she eventually had to commit suicide when she, abandoned and by herself, came across bandits in an upheaval.

When she was reborn, she remembered her awful life in the past so she made it a point to avoid her husband like the plague in this lifetime.

The story then tells how she is still pulled into the same sort of events and slowly walks down the same path, but manages to improve the situation because she is now wiser. It can be really fatiguing to read about the family plotting against one other but I really like the couple and hope they can have happiness this time so I ploughed through lol.

I don't think any one person is to be blamed for their failed marriage the first time. She was too young and got taken advantaged of by devious people. He was stuck between a rock and a hard place. It's really satisfying to see the both of them try this time around for a stronger relationship.

  • This seems like a very good story! But before, delving into this book, I need to know if the I s book is a happy or sad ending.

  • Yeah you def need to take a few breaks while reading this book. It's not that much like Mei Gong Qing though... this one is more "common life" whereas MGQ is a bit more "larger than life". Also, female lead definitely ends up with her original husband in this one and things only marginally change each time for her, whereas the butterfly effect in MGQ takes place early and extensively.
I only recommend this if you're into slice-of-life stuff, esp in a historical setting. You might cough blood at the unjustice but each time the good ppl survive you get to fist pump lol.

  • This seems interesting! But 476 chapters.... *flails* This will take me way longer than a week to read, but I will find some courage to do it since you said it's a serious contender and I rarely read slice of life novels. I only read one slice of life novel so far and it only stood at 200+ chapters so this is really impressive! Does this fall within clan intrigue? :D thanks for the recommendation though :D

  • Each chapter is short though, so 476 ends up being only slightly longer than MGQ's 246, not actually double. Still long, of course lol, but not as bad as it seems.
I have to confess I've only read a few longer slice-of-life myself, but I feel like the progression in this one is logical and solid, the leads are not absurdly talented geniuses or anything, and emotions get to run their natural course.
Yes, there's heavy clan intrigue in this one. Can be suffocating at times. I'm reading 知否,知否,應是綠肥紅瘦 currently which is a bit more bearable in that regard. Maybe you can try that instead?

  • Have you read 重生唐婉/廢柴之妻不敢當 ?
It's another slice-of-life/rebirth story, but based on actual historical figures. It's probably the shortest historical rebirth story that I've come across so far... some clan intrigue, but very little in comparison to 知否,知否,應是綠肥紅瘦 .

  • 重生唐婉 is by 油灯 right? I read it before but I felt that it was a little uneventful. I'm loving 知否,知否 . It's long, but I don't think the clan intrigue is heavy-handed like in 世婚。There's a limit to most of the relatives' shenanigans, and the female lead is also great at thwarting them. Have the hardest time waiting for the male lead to show up though. There were a few gege I thought would be cute, but alas...

  • @ hamster428 Coincidentally, the 'slice of life' novel I referred to earlier that I had read happens to be 知否知否 and I love it!! It's currently reigning at the top of my favourite novels list. So is the CP too, I think both the male lead and the female lead are lovable together. Oh, is the clan intrigue in 世婚 more serious? Like, are the relatives more devious? Haha in a way that sounds interesting, cause I thought Ming Lan handled most of the events in 知否知否 way too smoothly (she's too smart)
